Cephalopods
There are two main nations of cephalopods – the northern nation of Octopodum (they have no bonus tentacles and tend to be rounder headed) and the southern Calamari Empire (they’re more arrow shaped). They both inhabit the Silvan seas, and due to an intense hatred of Silva (the Cephalopod-slaughtering Chelonian tribes are ancestral partners with the elves) they help get the Pyrians across their narrow shipping lanes.
Octopodum
The northern kingdom is ruled by the King and Queen, Allwain and Galfryni. The nobles live a lavish lifestyle in the massive coral reefs, pampered by servant coral polyps and mentally inferior nautiloid servants. The rest of the population, for the most part, lives in less colorful, dense parts of the corals reefs, which tend to have less food and generally aren’t as comfortable. The abundance of edible life in the reef, however, means that for the most part the Octopdumese don’t need to worry about their next meal – they just have to keep trying to catch it. Bivalve farms are the main source of food for those who aren’t among the poor who scavenge the reefs.
The temples of Vera and Larantia almost have more mages than clergy. As a whole, magicks of illusion tend to be the main market, as are watery whirlpool spells.
Finally, the Octopodemese have a large standing army to “keep the peace” and fight off marauding Chelonians.
Calamari Empire
The empire dominates the Southern Silvan Sea with an iron tentacle. The size of its inhabitants ranges from the size of a human fist to creatures known to strangle sea monsters. For the most part, however, the inhabitants are about two meters in length. Empress Nekatphri leads the nation currently from her rocky palace in the depths.
A quick note about gender gaps – the males are mentally inferior and tend to sit around waiting for a female to grab them and use them to fertilize their eggs.
For the most part, the squidish denizens eat deep dwelling fish, catching them in massive nets. The Amazonian structure of the society has all women trained for battle from a young age, often with tridentine weapons. However, they have been so far unsuccessful in fighting the massive monsters from the east – giant swimming mammals that can bite open even the largest Calamarian with ease.
They have no magic.
Chelonian Tribes
With hard shells, sharp claws, and wicked beaks, these hungry reptiles have a relatively simple society, made of small groups led by warlike leaders. They eat fish and cephalopods, to the Empire and Octopodum’s chagrin. Luckily, they have trouble uniting in large groups, and only tend to interact with others when mating and being born. Surprisingly, they have a deal with the elves – you protect our eggs and we keep the Octopodese from spreading to your shores.
Unfortunately, the Pyrian Invasion is putting pressure on them to fight. With only their natural gifts and small groups, however, that might be a bit hard. If only they could be unified under one banner…
