((Still very much in progress....But I wanted to get this approved before I get into details.))
Faeries
A faerie is basically a mini-version of an elf. Most faeries like to party, and hold celebrations both big and small almost every day of the week. However, faeries have miniature, gossamer, insect-like wings. give off a bright glow that is mostly either pale gold, pink, blue or silver. They are about the size of a minotaur's fist, and extremely speedy while flying. Sometimes they are captured and trapped in cages to serve as lamps.
Faeries aren't truly magical. Contrary to the popular belief, there is no such thing as magic faeriedust....Or is there? However, some believe that faeries can create 'foxfire' or 'doomwytes', mysterious, entrancing lights that lead travellers astray, and never let them return...
Faeries of all (or most) types are party-loving beings, as well as rather, erm, lustful and womanizing little twerps. Unless they are female. In which case they'll be, um, manizing? Well, they're just flirtatious. Faeries are rather scantily clad at the best of times. They live in colonies, each familiy inside their own little "house", which is mostly just a tree trunk or something akin to that. Some faeries live underground though.
Most faeries are devout (or not) worshippers of Klecheck and Farain. Yay for parties.
Sub-races of faeries include:
Fox-spirits
Very, very, very distantly related to the Silvan (pure/common) faeries, fox-spirits are much bigger, about the same height as a particularly short elf. More closely related to foxes and elves than faeries, fox-spirits still give of a faint glow of sorts, mostly either gold, orange or silver.
Because of their roots in Silviv, the Life Tree, fox-spirits possess innate magical talents, but not much. In fact, it only means that they can shapeshift to the form of extraordinarily beautiful men and women (elvish in looks, of course) or just a normal fox (sometimes silver in colour). Like falcons, they also have a demi-form, which means that they are shorter and smaller than in their human form, but covered with fur, have fox ears, muzzles, and up to three tails.
Like there extremely distant, many-times removed cousins the faeries, fox-spirits are worshippers of Klecheck and Farain, but some of them are also followers of Firia.
However, fox-spirits are much more dangerous than the common faerie, being seducers more than just rather harmless party-loving little scraps.
Fox-spirits can be found mostly in Silva, but also sometimes in Pyria. Those in Pyria look more human than elven though, for obvious reasons.
There are rumours that fox-spirits can create foxfire like common faeries, but no one can really say that....Probably because all that have followed foxfire have never returned....
Water Nymphs
Sometimes called naiads. Perhaps even more distantly related to faeries than fox-spirits, nymphs are found in the Silvan Sea, mostly close to shore where they have more of a chance of lur--er, attracting some random handsome person out for a swim. Whether or not he returns is, of course, his responsibility.
Like their relatives, nymphs also give off a glow, mostly silver or blue. They can't come onto land, and they can't breath in air without considerable difficulty. Sometimes they appear to have the faintest suggestions of scales on their neck, hands, sides of their face and feet. Yes, feet. Surface-dwellers like feet more than fishtails for some reason. The odd twolegs.
Quite little is known about nymph society as, well, scholars sent to research them don't come back often, for some reason...
Nymphs mostly worship Larantia and Farain.
Dryads
The tree-folk, sometimes tree-faeries. Larger even than fox-spirits, dryads look mostly like beautiful young men and women clothed in leaves, with rather elvish looks. They mostly give off a silvery glow, or a green one, sometimes pale gold. They don't have wings, but there always seem to be the faint, shimmering outline of a pair on their backs.
Relatively harmless for faeries, dryads aren't as seductive as the rest of their kin. However, their voices are even more beautiful than those of the nymphs.
Like their winged cousins and elves, dryads mostly live in trees (well, there's a reason why they're called tree-folk). Actually, they take a step beyond living in trees. Dryads are actually bonded mentally and spiritually to a tree of their own selection, so that if the tree dies, they die too.
Which is why dryads are drawing closer and closer to extinction. Have Malar, Raza and the rest no shame?
Dryads worship Klecheck mostly, and sometimes Farain.
Miniature Faeries
Mostly just called "Minis" by their cousins. Being even smaller than pure faeries, minis are only about the size of half a fist. In fact, they are frequently confused with glowing bugs. There wings are almost as large as themselves, and they glow even more brightly than common faeries. They are also the speediest and most agile fliers amongst all the kinds of faeries.
However, minis harbour a grudge because of their small size. In fact, there have been some rumours of an alliance with Raza as payback...
Like most faeries, Minis worship Klecheck. Or do they...?
Xeliphiz
The Cursed Faeries. These poor, unfortunate souls were once common faeries that have died...But they were cursed by Malar in their lifetime (something involving Farain, a male Pyrian, an elfwoman, a king bed and a bottle of divine saliva that posed as wine). They were condemned to an afterlifetime of serving Malar, only Frackleth messed up his paperwork...
Xeliphiz are technically undead faeries. The typical "faerie glow" around them is an ash gray or sickly yellow. Their gossamer wings are ragged, sometimes even twisted and broken. Most Xeliphiz cannot fly, and it is not unknown for one to be trampled to the ground. However, since they're dead already, they can't die. However, they still need to get their wounds healed.
Being cursed and undead, it's no wonder that the Xeliphiz aren't fond of parties. They're probably the only species of faerie like this. Being pitied by the other types of faeries don't help matters much either. In fact, most faeries try to avoid the Xeliphiz, especially the Silvan faeries. They serve as a grim reminder to all other faeries how it is unwise to anger a god. Xeliphiz can reproduce (because Malar wants them to suffer more), but their offspring are still Xeliphiz, doom to a life (or unlife) of constant pain and hopelessness.
Xeliphiz worship both Frackleth and Malar in hopes that their curse will be lifted from them, and they can finally rest in peace.
((It's getting late. I'll probably continue when I have time...))
