A long time ago, before you or I existed or were ever even thought of, there was Afarius. The continent was among other oceans, hidden from most eyes and protected from the outside barriers set up by the eleven Sages of Protection. At that time, when the nation was young, there was but one kingdom and one emperor to rule it. His council under him helped rule, giving advice on decrees and such things. Both human and creature alike walked the lands in peace; they lived together as one from peasant, noble, to knights along with the emperor himself--things moved on smoothly.
But unrest began. Certain members of the council saw some things not to their liking; fights broke out, loyalists began to cause more trouble throughout the land; some of it was racial, some was randomly targeted. After awhile, the emperor was murdered and the mystery went unsolved. Following the emperor's death, a slow evolving war began, fights broke out over who would take the throne since the emperor had no heir. Finally, the eleven sages stepped fourth, they had power and helped make it so that there were four kingdoms, each one ruled by one of the four potential leaders. One kingdom, however, immediately seemed to separate itself from the rest: it vanished, most of the population of dragons going with it. The other three kingdoms took up their own forms of protection, not wanting their neighbors to invade.
After a few years they began to realize some of their foolishness. The three visible kingdoms began to make peace and opened up trades and business with one another. The leaders had figured out this was how their kingdom was to thrive since no one nation could live forever on its own limited resources. Through the trading and business, this created ties and allies which began to allow the lands to flourish once more. The eleven sages, after many years had passed, finally died excluding eight which left two for each kingdom.
Now the peace seems to be coming to an end: the three visible nations want more for themselves, more power. It seems no one will stop or hold back to get it, almost no one is wanting peace--the majority rules. A war seems inevitable but right now the tension is just growing into petty fight breakouts that are quickly put to rest. The end will either be in peace or war; allies are being strained between kingdoms and destruction seems so close. The fate of Afarius is uncertain at this standpoint, only you can make or break it.
